Good Morning. Please watch the following link and share as much as possible... bit.ly/1b5IinI In case you are unaware, we have a student in our school(Gananoque Intermediate and Secondary School), McKenna Modler, who was diagnosed with brain cancer few years back. As she was going through treatment she noticed parents of kids with cancer were struggling to cover treatment and other hospital related expenses. She created a charity called McKennas Dream. In a couple years she has raise over $130 000! I put the challenge out to my class(grade 7/8) to create an old-school flip book style animation film about McKennas story. They took it on in an incredible way. They wrote 28 scripts, narrowed it down to one. Story boarded it. Drew over 250 pictures. Built a copy stand from scrap metal(with help by teacher Dan Lovell). Cast voice actors(even a 6 and a 7 year old that McKenna knew from clinic to do voice overs). Filmed and edited. They asked Mike Bishop(one of our 7/8 teachers) to compose and perform the soundtrack(beautiful song). Everything is original. In a time of Pixar it may look primitive but nothing beats the charm and love theyve put into it. We make the film public today! We are asking everyone and anyone to watch and then share it. In the hallways our students will be posting QR scan codes in hopes if enticing GISS students to check it out. As a note, my class has set goals and rewards. If the get 500 views they get to pick what they do for gym. 1000 gets them a no math period. 2500 has me buying them pizza and pop. And for some reason if they get 10 000 views they want me to wear a dress and they put makeup on me. Anything for the cause. The purpose of the film is to raise awareness of McKennas Dream and to help raise money for families with children battling cancer. Hoping you can help. And, if you already havent, like McKennas Dream on Facebook and follow @McKennasDream on twitter. Cheers, Doug Bowlby
