Good Morning Rowing SA community, Please see the below Henley on Torrens Regatta report from Phil Mangelsdorf. Many thanks to Phil for his ongoing work and support to Rowing SA. Cheers TF RSA 2014 Adelaide Rowing Club Henley on Torrens Regatta. Racing rowing action was fast, furious, reckless and exciting Saturday on the Torrens in the city for the annual Henley on Torrens Sprint Regatta hosted by the Adelaide R.C. This was the first regatta held on the Kate Slatter Sprint 400mtr course since the new foot bridge was commissioned. The new bridge may have upset some of the course steering of the racing boats as there was a record number of crashes, collisions, banging and interlocking oars causing boat stoppages causing one of the race commentators to compare the regatta to a demolition derby. Typical of this was the final of the mens 1st grade single scull which saw Adelaide club mates Cameron Lowe and his club Captain, Nathan Bowden clash oars which saw Lowe take advantage to take the lead only to lose control and fall out of his boat where he was promptly crashed in to by the other finalist, Denby Harding from Norwood Morialta, allowing Bowden to win easily. Unley High and St Peters girls crews won most of the younger age school races whilst Adelaide High had a rare victory in the schoolboys 1st eights with none of the bigger SA schools choosing to race. A highlight of the day was the lunch in the Adelaide R.C. where the 2014 World title bronze medallist from SA,Olympia Aldersey and James McRae along with Molly Goodman from the 2014 Australian eight were guest speakers. Phil Mangelsdorf.
