Good Morning Surfrats. I know I posted these awhile back but lets bring some awareness to safety while on the beach, day and night. Im not a big fan of waders when it comes to Spring and Summer surfcasting on the open beach and waders on a jetty is a no- no. There was a post recently about medical debris washing up on the beaches and also foreign substances ( garbage ) left behind by tourists and fishermen that can give you a suck day if your not aware of your footing while trying to enjoy yourself out on the beach. Two Options: this is the OTB boot with various soles for different applications. Water drainage system through the sole and outside sole prevents sand and water weight buildup. Light on your feet and doesnt tire your lower extremities out walking a few miles while plugging the surf. Option 2: Wet Sock Bootie: Neoprene sock 3/4 to wear while fishing. Protects your feet from foreign debris, hot sand and possible a hook when reeling your plug back in from a current sweep. This early season when the water temps are 50-75 degrees I wear either option with shorts or splash pants and a surf belt for my excursions. Traveling light, knowing what to carry and protecting your feet are a few staples in making your trip more enjoyable and safer. The reason I dont wear waders is simple. Im positioned on the beach where I can reach the fish whether in close or over the second bar with my rod. Very rare Im getting wet above my thighs unless I releasing a fish properly. Also, wearing waders in the warmer months compromises the material to a certain degree. They will fade and crack if not taken proper care of. This is just an opinion of my own and what works for you stick with as long as your comfortable and safe. Just remember one thing also: waders in the summer months act like a plastic bag and they trap heat giving your lower extremities an easier time to dehydrate. Thanks
