Good Morning, The National Weather Service has issued Winter Weather Advisories for all of Southern CT and Windham County for today. At 8:00 AM radar showed light snow in Northern CT and moderate snow falling in Southern CT. Temperatures currently range from the upper 20’s to the low 30s across the state. This snow is along the northern edge of a low pressure system located near the North Carolina coast. As this low moves well to our south today towns can expect a period of moderate to occasionally heavy snow in Southern CT between now and 1:00 PM and towns in Northern CT can expect light to moderate snow during the same period. The impact on the rest of the morning rush hour should be minor on most highways with wet roads, however secondary roads have already become snow covered in Southwestern CT. As the snow continues through midday road conditions are expected to deteriorate especially in Southern CT with 1 – 3 inches of snow cover on most roads by noon. In Northern CT the falling snow is expected to melt on contact on the highways and more heavily traveled roads, but may coat the secondary roads with around an inch of snow. The impact on the midday commute is expected to range from minor in Northern CT to moderate along the coast. The snow is forecast to taper off from Northwest to Southeast between 1:00 - 3:00 PM. The impact on the afternoon rush hour is expected to be minor in most places by 4:00 PM. Total snowfall is forecast to range from 2 - 4 in Northern CT up to 4 - 7 along the coast. Accumulations should generally be greater on grassy surfaces and a little less on roads where some melting will occur. The Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security will continue to monitor the latest conditions and will send out another update at Noon.
