Good Morning To All: Just a few things to talk about. I turned - TopicsExpress

Good Morning To All: Just a few things to talk about. I turned on my TV and surfed the channels to see my local community access station airing a special Santa Claus call in show. It had just Santa in a chair with young lady acting as an Elf Helper. Thats it, nothing else! The show had children from the area calling in with Christmas requests. I actually watched the show for over an hour reminiscing on my actions as a young boy at Christmas time. Yes, the Christmas season was a very exciting time of the year for me and my Sister who often watched me while our single Mother worked multiple jobs to provide for us after my Dad died when I was 3 years old. 125th was jumping as people shopped uptown not even thinking about venturing downtown. I still can see the toys displayed out on the sidewalk. No Toys R Us to shop at. But we did have Bloomsteins (sp) department store to shop at and Choc Full Of Nuts to eat at if Teddy s Shanty was too busy. The lights were tremendous all over the area including in most windows. But all this is for another post (smile) Can you believe I actually sat there and listened to every kid call in their Santa Requests. My evening sure must have been an exciting one to do this lol. Interesting how almost every single kid asked for a toy or maybe two at most. No one asked for a new sweater, shoes, etc., although one did ask for a special pair of Kevin Durant sneakers. Than there was a kid named Jamal (sp) from Mount Pocono Pa. who asked for no less than 15 toy items and Santa had to ask if he could shorten his list lol. Yes we want what we want regardless! I went to sleep quite early based on various work men coming to my home this morning for a few projects that need completion including one new upstairs heating unit and a new cable TIVO system. So blessed I am able to purchase the necessary upstairs unit and be able to continue my fascination with electronic gadgets that I really do not even need (smile). I guess I am being like Jamal from Mount Pocono lol. My Christmas present to myself I guess. But being able to do this made me think of so many people I know who are in a holding pattern in life. I guess I am still a bit too sensitive when it comes to others in need. I guess it still bothers me that so many are struggling this season and no one is paying attention. I guess it bothers me that so many from where I grew up rarely venture more than 20 blocks from their homes that they have lived in for over 45 or 50 years. I guess it bothers me that so many people we know will be spending the holidays alone or without family or friends who actually live nearby. I guess it bothers me that so many people in our country remain hungry all year long despite being fed quite well at holiday time. I guess it bothers me that we still have so many jobs going overseas that it leaves so many over here jobless. I guess It still bothers me that there is a serious age discrimination issue that many face regarding employment, housing, and even surviving yet no one is addressing it. I know, as a super duper wonderful person tells me , I nor you can carry the burdens of the world on our shoulders. However, I do feel we can all be part of the solution with effort. Together we can do so much to assist so many. Tell a qualified person about a job! Invite those alone to come for a holiday meal! Share housing information as many already do on FB and other media outlets! Contact family and friends to make sure they are ok in every way including mentally during this season and all year long! Side Bar: More suicides and acts based on mental illness take place during the Christmas season than any other time of the year. So I guess in so many ways many of us are softies in need of seeing things change, The energy most use to gossip and discuss the misfortune of others could be better used to reach out and help solve problems leading to making life better for so many that we know. Have a wonderful day everyone and please share and care for others not just during the season, but all year long! Below is a photo of me most likely wondering and hoping for great toys from Santa Claus. Waking up on Christmas was so wonderful and exciting!
