Good Morning. What a night! So warm, in Christchurch we were sitting on 20 degrees at midnight and we had gale winds in many areas during the night. Today: It’s looking warm and windy across the region once again. Winds will be gusty about the coast and could approach gale force at times about the High Country and Plains. As a guide; 50-70km/hr about the coast and 80-100km/hr gusts about the high country. Temperatures should hover in the low 20’s, though once again we may break into the mid 20’s depending on high cloud cover. There is a chance of some spill over rain at various stages but IF it comes it will be short and short, higher chance closer to the foothills. As Josh has mentioned it will be a tad cooler than a typical NW and the flow will tend more and more westerly over the weekend causing snow levels to drop about the main divide. At this stage snow showers could fall to around 1000m and even lower closer to the main divide later Saturday afternoon which could possibly affect Arthurs Pass during SAT/SUN. People traveling in that area should check Land Transport and MetService for their road snow warnings. Saturday we are stuck again with NW conditions, fine in the east and rain west of the foothills and main divide. There is a chance of brief spill over rain but currently it’s a slim chance. Winds could well reach warning material once again especially about the high country and inland areas. So guys we’re still looking the pick of the bunch in New Zealand with a mostly sunny and mild although windy Labour weekend on the forecast! I’ll be back Tuesday.-RV
