Good Morning, When you live on a remote offshore Island, the weather is a massive part of daily life and it also not only informs peoples activities but it also has a huge influence on the collective mood, tone and outlook of this island community. I am tempted to write about the Atlantic storms that are lashing and pounding our shore just now but Ill refrain, for now. When you sit down to shepherds pie and there is a gale of wind hammering your house, rain pelting wildly and violently off the glass, the waves breaking on the shore and against the cliffs with frightening force --- does this make the shepherds pie taste better ? When you live on an island and you feel like a cork bobbing uncontrollably in the raging sea --- you feel safe, secure, snug and warm as the elements show some of their glorious and magnificent power. The feeling of being cut off from the outside world makes you feel uniquely connected to your island home --- does this all make the shepherds pie tastier ? My answer to all of the above is a simple yes. I have never enjoyed living here as much or felt as much at home or indeed, connected to this wild and beautiful place as during these stormy days of winter. More soon, from my beloved Island.
