Good Morning World, I am joyous and encouraged after watching - TopicsExpress

Good Morning World, I am joyous and encouraged after watching the demostrations all night for justice;led mostly by the youthful energy and engagement of a new generation. We are truly witnessing the birth of a new Civil Rights Movement. And we are blessed to do so! So, I was a little surprised to awaken to tears and flashbacks; really residual disappointment that we are still fighting this fight for equity and justice! Last nights images took this Texas woman back to the old South of my birth, a Black girl who witnessed the racial atrocities and indignities endured by my parents. They fought, in their own loving ways, to protect me and my siblings as best as they could. I now feel that my love for fabulous restaurants comes from denial of priviledge to do so during a visit at my fathers job. He was a janitor atTHE DALLAS MORNING NEWS in the sixties. At lunchtime, I remember peering through a doorway window to see the most glamorous dining hall, with china, and sparkling glasses that glowed like diamonds. I was excited and ready to eat. Oh No. We dont eat in there. We have to eat here. We ate our sandwich in the broom-sized closet. I was so happy to be with Daddy, but I wondered why we couldnt eat in that beautiful room! I would grow up and later take Daddy to the best restaurants; I hate he never saw me featured in HIGH PROFILE; an honor to Dallas successful figures, from that very newspaper that treated Daddy like a boy! Another flashback in my civil rights memories was with my Mother. So, as we are boarding the bus to go downtown;all of ten minutes, but to a child, it was the journey of life. I was sassy, and had on my favorite dress. So, when we kept moving towards the back of the bus,I wanted to know why. The best view is in the back, my Mother exclaimed! Another attempt to protect the child. Now, fast-forward fifty years, along that same bus route, stands a monument to that little girl, who saw and vowed to participate in change! The winds of change are blowing. Our youth serve as the mast; sailing into Freedom! Ashe BOBBI HUMPHREY FIRST LADY OF FLUTE
