Good Morning and a Blessed Sunday to you all! Its been a cool and rainy weekend here in the ATX! We will of course be back up into the 90s in no time, but getting that first taste of Fall has been glorious. It was a perfect stay-inside-and-watch-football kind of Saturday! Boom! I heard a song on Pandora this past week that was new to me. These lyrics caught my ear: While Im waiting I will serve You While Im waiting I will worship While Im waiting I will not faint Ill be running the race Even while I wait (While Im Waiting by John Waller) Waiting. Man, we dont like it much, do we? Its not something were very used to or even comfortable with. And in all fairness, how could we be? In our modern world, instantaneous gratification has become a way of life. It takes little more than a few keystrokes to get almost anything we want and get it fast. A friend of mine was telling me the other day that she had ordered something for her young son from Ebay, and he was complaining about how long it was taking to arrive (he had only been waiting a couple of days). I jokingly said, We should all start telling our kids that everything takes 6 to 8 weeks to arrive. That was good enough for us when we were growing up and it should be good enough for them! Ha! The truth is, there are some things - indeed, many things - that still require waiting. And I believe wholeheartedly that waiting is a critical spiritual practice. I think it helps us to lean into God more, to trust God more, to draw closer to God, and to assume a more definitive posture of dependence on God. And when I heard this song, what I loved about it was this idea that, not only am I okay with waiting, but I am going to choose to continue to praise and honor and serve God in the midst of my waiting. I will serve you...I will worship...I will not faint...Ill keep running the race. This isnt easy. But you know, God promises strength for those who wait. Hear these words from Isaiah 40:31: But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. Gods character is such that He is faithful to provide supernatural strength for you during your season of waiting. I wonder what you find yourself waiting for these days. Restoration in a broken relationship? The right job? The right partner? Healing from illness or injury? (My hand is raised). Healing from the past? Financial relief? The return of a prodigal child? Maybe just some easier days, for the love of Pete? Be encouraged today, dear ones. God sees you, and He is with you in your waiting. Believe it. Wait for the LORD; Be strong and let your heart take courage. Psalm 27:14 Thanks be to God.
