Good Morning everyone! In a Communications class I recently took, I learned about Cultivation theory and Media Manipulation. I think Media Manipulation is self-explanatory and very real in our society. However, some might not know about cultivation theory. Cultivation theory is a social theory which examines the long-term effects of television (and I will add, media in general). The primary proposition of cultivation theory states that the more time people spend living in the television world, the more likely they are to believe social reality portrayed on television.” Both Media Manipulation and Cultivation leaves people with a misperception of what is true in our world. We try to keep that television off as much as we can, watching only “our shows” which are recorded like The Blacklist (thanks Lisa VanHorn Railey! :) and The Walking Dead. I will read the news online so that I can go to different sources in order to try to piece together the complete story which is very hard to do with so much slanted journalism. We also are trying to teach our kids to look for the good in the world and focus on that and treat everyone like you want to be treated regardless of all differences including which sins they have committed because we are all guilty of something and require mercy. No, I don’t advocate sticking your head in the sand and avoiding injustice. I just feel that if you have a keen understanding of the good in the world, you will better be able to fight the bad by showing them how much better it can be instead of highlighting bad behavior which just puts everyone on the defensive. So, here’s a good example for the campaign of focusing on the good! Have a great day! https://youtube/watch?v=hdbwzFC2TOA
