To-day we want to ponder on the growing population of the world.Demographic studies have shown that the world population which was 2.6 billion in 1950, had reached 6 billion in 2000 and is projected to reach 7.2 billion in 2015, By 2050, it is projected to reach 9,2 billion. In the next 30 years, the world population will increase by another 2 billion. Similarly, in Mauritius, the population was 500 000. By 1970, it had reached 800 000. in 1990, it was nearly 1 million.Now, it is about to reach 1.3 million.Between 1990 and 2013, it has increased by 500 000. Now, imagine how hard we should work if we want to contain this rate of population growth and provide adequate facilities, food, housing and general welfare for all. It is, therefore, imperative that we all work hard to rebuild the economy of the country or else we shall be phased out by wolrd stiff competition for food and other amenities.
