Good News! 10/29/14 I had a CT scan on Monday and consultations with Drs. Ko [Medical Oncologist] and Nakakura [surgeon] this morning. The scan shows no spread of disease and the tumor pretty much the same as last time. The doctors agree that the chemo treatments have done their job and that I am ready to have the surgery to remove the cancer! No more chemo! [for now, at least] The plan is for a Whipple Procedure, a very complex Rube Goldberg procedure that involves removal of part of the stomach, small intestine, part of the pancreas and biliary ducts, and then re-hooking the parts up again in a different arrangement. You can look it up if you want to know more. It will take place at the UCSF hospital on Parnassus Ave. in the nest two or three weeks. The surgery will be 4-7 hours, and I will be in the hospital up to a week, and in recovery mode in my own place 4-6 weeks. What happens after that depends on what they find in the surgery and pathology. It’s scary, but I feel good about this, my friends! More later. Love, Bill Bill Light light@newmexico P.O.
