Good News: Nigeria is Presently Ebola Free By Ilori Kehinde Consequent to the fire brigade approach adopted by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan on the outbreak of Ebola Virus disease (EVD) in Nigeria, the country is currently left with no case of the Ebola infection. The Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu said that there is no active case of the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) in the country, as the last patient, the wife of late Dr. Iyke Samuel Enemuo, has been treated and discharged. Speaking to news men yesterday after the Federal Executive council (FEC) meeting at the State House, Abuja, the Chief Medical Director of Nigeria said “At present, there is no single current case of confirmed EVD in Nigeria, however, a suspected case of EVD from Ile-Ife, a university student who had contact with the late Port Harcourt doctor at a naming ceremony in Port Harcourt has been quarantined and is being investigated,” adding that unlike other countries, there is no community transmission of the disease in Nigeria. He also stated that Nigerians must continue to take precautions so as to avoid any more case of the disease. Nigerians and the International community have continued to applaud measures adopted by President Jonathan’s administration in dealing with the virus while kudos have been given to the Minister of health, Onyebuchi Chukwu for effectively implementing President Jonathan’s prudent directives which has drastically reduced tension in the Country hoping that the situation will remain so.
