Good News! The City Council has passed the resolution in support of bike infrastructure in general and the bridge in particular if feasible! Thanks to co-sponsors Bess Rich & Levon Charles Doc Manzie and the other council members who voted yes: Joel Daves Fredrick D. Richardson & CJ Small. The only member who voted No was John C. Williams and it was difficult to understand why as he said he supported a path from Mississippi to Florida through Mobile - and such a path would have to cross the Mobile River at some point (i.e. the petition asks for I-10 bridge OR alternative route ovetr the river). He said he was given a 10-15% cost on the path by SARPC but Kevin Harrison, SARPC Executive Director, confirmed with me after the meeting that the path cost would be around 5% - so not sure where he got that. $85-130 million would be a heck of a path - you could amost build its own bridge for that. So hopefully M.O.B. members can continue to speak with him on the issue.
