Good News Today! Jesus Comes First, Really! Read 1 Corinthians 7:29-31 See text link below ...and those who deal with the world as though they had no dealings with it (31). Because this passage follows a lengthy teaching on the virtues of staying single (see 7:1-28), many have accused Paul of having a loosey-goosey attitude toward marriage and divorce. The Apostle is not dissing marriage so much as the Corinthians (and our own) tendency to invest too much in every way with the world (see also 1 John 2:15-17). Is Pauls perspective skewed by a wrong-headed understanding that Christ was coming again immediately? Maybe, maybe not; but that changes not one wit the attitude of detachment we all should have with anything going here, including marriage, children, career, education, ministry and church. Jesus is Lord (really!). Seek him first. Jesus is coming again (anytime!). He has work for you to undertake, a life for you to live, for him in the meantime.
