Good Samaritan Hospice will host its 19th annual “Light Up a Life” program beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. “Light Up a Life” is the fund-raising and candle-lighting service held in remembrance of individuals who have died and in celebration of those living. “Light Up a Life is a very special event where the hospice staff can continue to support families and loved ones during their journey to live each day with hope and meaning,” said Dannette Craig, hospice supervisor. “It is a beautiful experience that I stand in awe of seeing so much love and compassion showered on those in attendance of the event.” Charitable contributions ensure that Good Samaritan Hospice, a non-profit organization, will be able to continue providing the gift of loving care to patients and their families during the final season of life, regardless of their ability to pay. “The Light Up a Life annual candle-lighting service is a wonderful opportunity for the greater community,” said Nancy Miller-Haupert, bereavement coordinator. “During November, which is National Hospice Month, and in early December, as a prelude to winter, hospices throughout the country sponsor a Light Up a Life Program to gather families and friends for a time of remembrance, ritual and renewal. “This event is also a fund raising opportunity for the hospital so we can continue the comforting care of individuals in their final journey.” The candle-lighting service will be held in the parking lot between the Hospice House located at the corner of Ninth and Bayou streets. This area will be brightened with white tents, white lights and white candles symbolizing the significance of light and hope. A new feature to the event will be a hospitality tent with hot beverages and refreshments available outdoors. A reception will follow the service in the Health Pavilion and a tour through the Healing Garden will be the path to “light our way.” If you would like to make a contribution or have any questions may contact Good Samaritan Hospice at 812-885-8035.
