Good Saturday morning everyone. Well, we have some showers in the Valley here in Arizona thanks to the storm responsible for all the messy weather in the West and Northwest part of the country. The cold front is just about over the Valley which is moving to the East and we also have low pressure just to our North sitting over the Flagstaff area. This will keep shower chances and possibly a rumble or two of thunder in the forecast until this afternoon, and even later today for areas North of town. The higher elevations North and East of the Valley will likely see snow over the next several hours. Get ready for much cooler weather through the weekend. I mentioned we would see highs in the low to mid 60s across the Valley this weekend versus the upper 70s we enjoyed this past week. As for the rest of the country, look for messy condition from Arizona and points North into the Great Basin and Northern Rockies along with a little leftover precipitation in the Northeast. For Sunday, we should be clear of all precipitation here in the Valley but we will also feel the cooler air in place. The wintry weather to our North will continue to push off to the East behind the front which will bring snows to the Rockies and parts of the Northern and Central Plains. The best chance for any storms this weekend will be on Sunday across parts of the Southern and Central Plains. As of right now it only looks to be a marginal threat for any severe storms and damaging winds would likely be the main threat. If you look at the forecast temperature maps you can definitely see where the cold front is on Sunday separating the trough in the Western half of the country from the high pressure ridging in the Southeast. Looking ahead, I mentioned before that there was the potential for yet another Pacific storm in the forecast. Well this will likely bring more unsettled and wet for the West coast by Monday. This will also bring us here in the Valley another chance for rain and snow in the Mountains. On Monday the flat upper ridge is forecast to shift off to the east as another deep and wet pacific upper low should approach the California coast. We will likely see an Increase of high clouds along with slight warming which will bring our high temps back up around normal. Latest medium range model guidance is consistent with the possibility we could see some wet and unsettled weather across the state through Thursday of next week. Now, the track and timing of this next storm will have an impact as to who sees more rain and when it will fall. As the cold front pushes East, a split between the Westerlies will send rain across the Northern and Southern parts of the country through the week but as the colder air filters in we could see the potential for a winter storm across parts of the Plains and Mississippi Valley by Monday. This could mean more possible snow for the Upper Great Lakes and Northeast through the middle of next week. Stay tuned and I will keep you all posted on the latest forecast. Have a wonderful weekend everyone. ~Pete
