Good Saturday morning from Davie Fl. Looks like a nice cool weekend ahead. We had a super busy week hunting down new inventory for the grove. Seems like the grow your own food movement is alive and has no end in sight. We foresee another big run on fruit trees this spring and summer. Fruit availability for this weekend is as follows: Avocado(we still have a small supply), Sapodilla, Stafruit, Caimito (Star Apple), Passion Fruit. With Avocado season at its end, we now look forward to a banner mango season, trees are now in heavy bloom with many already setting fruit. Lychees may awaken and finally give up some fruit this year, our trees are starting to bloom. We wanted to take a minute and discuss our next subject, Citrus. We have been bombarded with phone calls over the last few weeks with many people calling regarding citrus availability. We, at Benders Grove do not carry any citrus, the reason simply is that we consider the present environment detrimental to the future of citrus in South Florida. Virtually the whole state is inundated with citrus greening, this disease is just destroying citrus trees throughout the whole state and Dade,Broward and Palm Beach Counties are just inundated with this lethal disease. We sincerely believe at this time it is a waste of money and time to plant any citrus, especially for those who use organic practices to have any success at all with citrus. The Dept. of Agriculture has been feverishly working on a cure and now the federal govt is also pouring millions of dollars in its quest to find a cure an eradicate the culprit the Asian Phsylid. We have a firm belief to help ensure your success when you by any tree from Benders Grove, We will not sell any fruit tree we dont believe has a good chance to succeed in your landscape and are not interested in making a quick buck, We value your business and are here to build a successful customer base. That has always been our guiding principle and why we have been successful over the years! We urge all of you to refrain from buying citrus trees till a cur for citrus greening is found.
