Good Sunday morning from Davie Fl. FINALLY some relief from the summer heat! Seems we will get some relief from the sweltering summer we have endured, and not a minute too soon. We had a fairly busy day with tree and fruit sales yesterday. Unfortunately we sold out of longans but have a great selection of Avocado and Starfruit for today. We had quite a few of you stop by yesterday and pick up those fruiting Red Jaboticabas, we have a couple left so dont miss out, they will surely be gone by today, we also have 4 Vexator Jaboticabas left in 3 gallon so hurry before you miss out! There is a growing debate going on about what is truly organic and locally grown. We have seen ourselves at some of the farmers markets the old bait and switch. For the most part the folks who sell at these Farmers markets are honest and hard working, but as in any business there are those who are very good at taking advantage and selling produce as organic, which is not. This must stop and be regulated. California has had and is cracking down on this fraud. Many of the fruits and produce being sold as locally grown or organic are in fact, imported and bought from wholesalers. The best way to protect yourself and your hard earned dollars is to establish a relationship with those you buy from. Ask a few simple questions, such as, Is your farm close by?, is it open to the public for visits, if premiums are being charged for so called organic, ask to see their certifications, ask to see if they are registered with the Dept of Agriculture. If any hesitation arises from any of these questions, chances are the produce you are buying is not what is being represented. As always the old adage Buyer Beware applies!
