Good Thursday morning. Its Pork Tenderloin today at the Diner. Sorry for the absence, but the last 24 hours I have been harassed by scams. So, let me give you a warning on the one that happened at work last night. So I am on the internet trying to open a picture when I get a message that my Java needs updating. I chose to ignore the warning but it still wouldnt open the picture. So I updated. WAY WRONG THING!! I was introduced to a new concept (to me anyway) called hostage ware. Computer is locked up and you are given a number to call to unlock it. I called tech support at that point. But if you call the number you get some very efficient tech people who will remove the threat from your computer FOR A PRICE! And of course after you have paid they have your credit card number. These idiots literally shut down my whole work network. Froze all my terminals and the computer. I had to close early and was so stressed out my hair wouldve turned gray if it wasnt white already!! The lesson here, only go to the OFFICIAL web site of whatever you are being told to update. If its Adobe, go to Adobe; if its Java, go to Java. I was also scammed by the IRS thing yesterday. Someone with a heavy foreign accent tried to advise me that the IRS had a judgment against me and if I couldnt or wouldnt take care of it then, the police would be sent to my house in 45 minutes to seize my personal belongings. I knew the call was bogus - I told them to go ahead and send the cops and Id have a pot of coffee ready for them. But I can see how an elderly person living alone would be terrified. So beware, the world out there is getting more dangerous by the minute. I can guarantee you this though, no one at Marcy Diner will try to take your furniture or anything if you want a hamburger instead of a cheeseburger! See you at the Diner.
