Good Tuesday morning, Hopkins County area.....a very windy 45 degrees at my house this morning, with winds having shifted during the night to the NNW, making it seem even colder.....continued NNW winds throughout the day, gusting to 25 mph and it isnt going to get much if any warmer all day....a freeze warning in effect for tonight with a nighttime low of 31 degrees and winds shifting to the direct north!....Continued cold tomorrow!.....Folks, looks like were going to get our first taste of winter!.....bundle up, take something warm with you and count on very, very winding conditions making it seem even colder!.....A busy, busy day around here on Monday, but a very nice escape as I traveled to Miller Grove and took photos of the State Cross Country Champions....congratulations to these fine young men, many of which were on the Hornet Basketball Team that went to state last year! (Remember those fine young men in ties and praying on the square!....its the same outstanding student athletes).....then, I took the long way home down the back roads.....traveling past fields that I remember my Daddy farming back in the early 1960s, where he raised watermelons, sweet potatoes, and peanuts....fields that I had played in, as a child.....the fields were decked out in autumn foliage and a sight to see!.....Then, I passed homes and farms of customers at the store that I remembered delivering feed to even before I got my drivers license....Wed load a ton of feed in a truck and Id deliver it after school....pleasant memories of many people who have now passed away, but were good, honest country people who bought feed to winter their cattle!.....Then, it was back to working photos and writing stories, before going to the Extension Service 41st Annual Christmas Joys Holiday Program at the Southwest Dairy Museum....some great ideas for Christmas and kind of got everyone in the mood for the holidays, especially when the Museum brought out an array of cheeses, dips, and finger foods designed for holiday entertaining....remember the Dairy Museum when youre planning your holiday tables!......Back home and continued working on stories and photos and I continue to work on my holiday decorations....But, today we pause to honor those who have served in protecting our freedoms and continue to serve and defend....Veterans Day 2014.....we owe a huge debt of gratitude to our veterans!....A number of celebrations and programs are planned throughout the day, all across the county....get out and thank the veterans for their service!.....This morning I was drawn to the Gospel of John, Chapter 15, verse 13.....Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.......God tells all of us to put others before ourselves.....to love one another as He has loved us....God wants us to be self-sacrificing and to serve others and Christ tells us in the 9th chapter of this same chapter, As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you; continue ye in My love!.....On this blustery and cold day, abide in the love of the Father and His Son, as you put others first and are richly blessed!
