Unless we give part of ourselves away, unless we can live with other people and understand them and help them, we are missing the most essential part of our own lives.--Harold Taylor A student in one of my classes once made the claim that life was all about just sitting in one place and waiting for the world to come to you, because if you sat in one place long enough, everything would come to you. I tend to think that if I decided to sit in one place for a long time, everything will pass me by, but it wont necessarily come to me. After all, what motivation would people and things have to come to me if I werent acting at all, and just sitting there? Sitting and waiting for the world to come to you will result in a pretty safe and tedious world. After all, we face no rejection and no hurt. But we also create no reasons why anyone would want to come to us. And yes, we are all inherently valuable human beings, but we never allow others to see and experience our value if we do nothing but sit and wait. And we also never recognize the needs of others who may need someone to come their way every now and then.
