Good afternoon, CGA Family, As a result of the government - TopicsExpress

Good afternoon, CGA Family, As a result of the government shutdown, personnel base-wide have had to compensate in a variety of ways for the responsibilities typically filled by the furloughed civilian personnel, though all new duties assumed have been voluntary and no civilians at the Academy have been required to take on any additional roles. While we have made adjustments to compensate for our furloughed employees, it is part of our great Coast Guard culture that we adapt and continue our planned operations to the extent we are able. Because the academic program was exempt from the furlough, cadets’ classes have and will continue on as usual, which allows the cadet’s officer training program to remain uninterrupted. However, academic support has been sharply curtailed, as tutoring and other academic support services have been discontinued, and the library is only open for a limited number of hours each day when a cadet watchstander can be provided. If you visit us on campus, please also note that the museum at the Academy will be closed throughout the government shutdown. We intend to proceed with all “at-home” athletic events, including the football game this Saturday. Most scheduled “away” competitions will proceed through this weekend. All athletics activity expenses will be funded using non-appropriated funds, which are limited. We will have to examine our athletics activity on a week-to-week basis. This is an uncertain time for all hands, and we certainly appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
