Good afternoon Delmarva. Well most of us are in for a rainy - TopicsExpress

Good afternoon Delmarva. Well most of us are in for a rainy windy night here on Delmarva! Heres the gameplan: Tonight a low pressure will continue to form along a stalled cold front to our south as seen on the pictures below. This low will travel NE along the stalled front as an upper wave (orange circle on surface analysis map) and an increasing low level flow (H85 flow) will result in additional rainfall overnight. Lows generally in the mid to upper 60s. Heavy rains will continue through the night and into Wednesday morning. Southernmost parts of Delmarva up to around Salisbury will receive most of the rain ranging from 3-6 inches of liquid. Salisbury and north and west will see 1-2 inches on avg. Baltimore and Wash. DC wont see much at all. Basically what is happening is the strong cold front that came through the other night and brought us those storms to the area has stalled down in NC & SC. A weak area of low pressure starting forming yesterday and has become and will continue to strengthen. This in turn will feed gulf and Atlantic moisture into our area along with a semi-strong high pressure in the New England area assisting with the NE flow aloft enhancing even more rain. This high pressure will also limit the rain in the northern and western parts of Delmarva and surrounding areas to the west and north while pushing drier dew points into those areas cutting the rain totals. Winds will also be increasing near the surface from the NE as this low tracks closer to our forecast area. Areas along the coastline and inland towards Salisbury can expect 10-25 mph winds tonight. Strongest near the coast. As rains continue roads and ditches will become flooded and some roads may become impassable. Drivers are recommended to turn around and find an alt. route. We will keep you posted on any flood conditions that happen. DW
