Good afternoon ! I seek information on Swedish siblings who came to America at two different times, but we can find deaths of neither. Both went to NYC/Brooklyn, and we now wonder if they ever went back to Sweden. Have not found them there, but wonder if something has been overlooked. Anna Lovisa Bjorkander, born 10/12/1852 in Hassle, Sweden, came to NYC in 1892 and married tailor Anders Peter Carlson in 1893. Anders is shown as widowed in the 1900 Brooklyn census. We wonder if Anna Lovisa may have died in childbirth. If she had living children, we would like to know, having not found any so far. (She had a sister, Carolina Bjorkander Parsons, living in Brooklyn and Manhattan.) Anders had several other marriages, so we also wondered if there was a divorce, since widowed in census sometimes really meant divorced. We have checked NYC death records, but Anna Carlson was a very common name..we sent for a few death certs that were not hers. swedesinilnyma/getperson.php?personID=I13&tree=bjorkander Claes Wilhelm Bjorkander, born 2/13/1842 in Hassle, arrived in the U.S. in 1880 after his wife and some children had died in Sweden. One son remained there. CWBs son, Karl Theofron Bjorkander, was put in an orphanage for half-orphans in New York City in 1880. The son became Charles Burkander Wilson and went to work as an indentured servant initially for a NYC tailor, George Wilson. Since the son did the tailoring work and did not return to his father, we dont know if the father was still living at the time (in NY, elsewhere, or Sweden) or not. In C Ws fathers estate inventory in Orebro in 1883, CW was listed as living in America. There was supposedly no estate inventory for CWs mother, Inga Bjorkander, in 1892.We have not found a name change document or anything similar so far on CW.
