Good afternoon, We currently have showers affecting a good portion of the country as a cool air mass has moved in behind this mornings frontal system, which brought the rain to eastern parts earlier. Showers have the potential to become thundery across Northern Ireland, Northwest England, Cumbria, Northeast England, Southern Scotland, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, and Cheshire, here we will see CAPE values of between 400-800j/kg during peak heating, indicating a threat of thunderstorms with flashes of lightning and small hail possible. With only light winds to speak of, any showers will be slow moving and will bring a threat of localised flooding. Elsewhere showers are still possible as an unstable air mass is present so nowhere will have immunity, Wales probably seeing the majority of the showers, the southern half of England prone to showers also but winds will be strengthening and blowing the showers through rather quickly so in between the showers, sunny spells will be likely. The showers continue throughout the night for Northern Ireland, Scotland, Central and Northern England, the risk of thunderstorms will reduce significantly with lack of surface heating. The brisk winds will still be a feature for southern England although showers will be less likely here. Stuart.
