Good afternoon, all. Wanted to stop in and catch everyone up on the latest cold snap well see for mid-late week. Model guidance continues to show an arctic blast impacting much of the region as an unseasonably COLD air mass takes over starting tomorrow - Friday. Heres what were looking at over the next 48-72 hours.... An arctic cold front will swing through the Commonwealth late tonight/early Wednesday morning. Temperatures are expected to drop drastically throughout the day with thermometer readings in the upper teens/lower 20s tomorrow morning. By Wednesday afternoon, temps are slated to fall into the low-mid teens as winds crank up from the NW around 10-20 mph. Factor in these blustery winds with temps in the teens, single digit - subzero wind chill values will be likely. But wait, theres more..... Overnight Wednesday will be the coldest day weve had thus far. The general consensus is temperatures will reside from a few degrees below 0 to a few degrees above (see images below. 1. Euro, 2. Nam, 3. GFS). Yes, you read that correctly. With light winds around 3-5 mph Wednesday night, frigid wind chill values from -5 to -15º are likely. Regardless, a very COLD night will be anticipated, so action should be taken now to prepare. ****Important things to remember***** - Check faucets, keep your faucets dripping slowly. - Bring pets INDOORS with plenty of food & water!! - Wear lots of layers/dress appropriately! - Minimize your time spent outdoors. Outside of the cold conditions, the front will bring a slight chance for some sctd flurries/snow showers for the Commonwealth. Little to no impact is expected but some flakes could be flying around early Wednesday morning. Otherwise, look for temperatures to remain below freezing through Friday before slowly warming into the 30s this weekend. All images courtesy of WeatherBell. ~ Chris
