Good afternoon and Happy Friday, UPDATES - WELL - The well - TopicsExpress

Good afternoon and Happy Friday, UPDATES - WELL - The well drilling will begin tomorrow at the current water plant site. This will be a 2500+ FT deep Jordan Wall. Although there has been severe flooding in central Iowa and across the state, the existing shallow wells are still 15-20 feet below normal. The City is committed to maintaining a reliable and independent water source. In most cases the drilling will be a 7 days per week, 24 hour per day process. Although sound barriers have been installed, you may hear a loud motor noise for a few hours at a time followed by a brief silence as the piping is changed out. The drilling may take 8-10 weeks depending on how quickly it does. Thank you for your patience as we drill this well to ensure that you have a consistent and safe water supply. SIGNALS - The signals at the intersection of SE James and SE 37th will be active starting next Wednesday, June 12th. Message boards will be there on Monday and Tuesday alerting everyone that the signals will be active on Wednesday. There will NOT be a transition to flashing red for a few days. The intersection will be in complete signalized mode starting on Wednesday. This is being done to facilitate traffic movement at this intersection. CAR FIRES – I would like to clarify that although the update on the car fires came from the Johnston Police Department, the Polk County Sheriff’s Department was very active in the investigation and helped to facilitate the arrest of the two men who were responsible. The City of Grimes continues to be very satisfied with the services provided by the Polk County Sheriff’s Department and their commitment to keeping the City of Grimes safe and protected. Although the Public Health and Safety Advisory Board has researched and analyzed the potential for the City of Grimes to have its own police department, their finding have shown that it is much more cost effective to contract with Polk County, not to mention the unlimited resources that the City of Grimes has through the contract with Polk County. It should also be noted that there have been contacts from other Iowa cities who are very interested in pursuing a relationship with their county law enforcement similar to that which we currently have. As the initiative continues to consolidate and provide more efficient services to all citizens across Iowa, Grimes is considered by many to be on the forefront and is leading by example. Grimes shares a Fire Chief with the City of Johnson, contracts with PeopleService for water and wastewater services, contracts for legal services with Whitfield & Eddy and Dorsey & Whitney, engineering services with FOX Engineering and has several 28E agreements for shared services in the DM Metro Area. All of these contracts and agreements provide more efficient cost effective services as the City of Grimes has “experts” in these respective areas at our disposal. As always, thank you for the opportunity to serve you. Have a wonderful weekend. Kelley
