Good afternoon blessed sisters in Christ. I hope you’re having a wonderful day today and that your heart is filled with joy in the Lord. Even if the day isn’t quite going as planned, let me encourage you to find something specific to thank God for. He blesses us every day in so many ways and the devil tries his best to steal our joy. Case in point, as I lay in bed early this morning unable to sleep, I was spending my own quiet time with the Lord which includes reading the devotion my devotion sister posts on her day. I noticed that there wasn’t a devotion for the day and I knew it was one of two things: 1. We’re human. The devil hates us almost as much as we hate him and he does everything in his power to prevent us from posting devotions. Or 2. Facebook was having a glitch and either she wasn’t able to post or it simply wasn’t showing up. It was about 3 in the morning so I wasn’t about to try to contact her so I waited until morning and sure enough, the devil had wreaked his havoc on her and the end result was no devotion being posted. As we’ve both stated before, our goal is to be sure there’s a devotion posted every day. God appointed us to this ministry in September of 2011 so we’re going on 2 years, and He’s blessed it immensely! And yet, we’re still human so excuses aside, we thank each of you for your loyalty to God’s ministry which we have the extreme honor of serving in, and we humbly seek your apologies for any of our fleshly errors. We thank God for each of you and we pray for you all daily. That all being said, please take a moment to seek His presence in prayer before you continue with the word He has for us today. I’m going to do something I’ve never done before. I’m going to post straight from a devotion I’ve personally been touched by recently, but it’s what God’s leading me to do. There are several resources I go to for daily devotions in my own personal time with God, and this one is from Our Daily Bread. I’m not sure when it was written because this is from the free Bible app that is downloaded to your phone. It was written by Bill Crowder who is a Christian writer who’s been published in several Christian booklets. I am making one slight change however, and that is the choice of accompanying verse used. I felt that the verses he used didn’t fit as well for the message of the devotional content, at least not for what God was saying to me through Mr. Crowder’s words. Matthew 5:14-16 (KJV) says: 14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15 Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. And here is what Bill Crowder had to say that moved me to seek out these verses: Silent Witness - Bill Crowder On a beautiful, warm January morning, a colleague and I were having breakfast in an outdoor coffee shop at MacRitchie Reservoir Park in Singapore. With a beautiful lake and immaculate gardens surrounding us and a light breeze blowing across the water, the setting was quiet, calm, and lovely. At a nearby table, a young woman sat quietly reading her Bible. She was absorbed in the text, occasionally looking up to consider what she had read. She never said a word, but her heart and priorities were visible to everyone at that coffee shop. It was a gentle, positive, silent witness. She was not ashamed of Christ or His Book. She neither preached a sermon nor sang a song. She was willing to be identified with the Savior, yet she did not need to announce that allegiance. In our attempts to share the message of Jesus, we must eventually use words, because ultimately words are needed to present the gospel. But we can also learn from the example of this woman. There are times when the quietness of our everyday actions speak loudly, revealing our love for the Lord. In our desire to share Christ with a broken world, let’s not ignore the power of our silent witness. Witness for Christ with your life as well as your lips. He also shared a poem and its author: Yielding your all to the Savior; And letting His love flow through you; Makes even your silent witness; A witness of what God can do. —Bosch And honestly, there just isn’t much more I can add to that. Prayer: Father God, I know that we are to share Your word with others verbally but it’s also equally important that others SEE our witness without a single word. Help us to know when to live out our witness verbally and when to keep our mouths shut and just live it out period. I love You and praise You. In Christ, Amen.
