Good afternoon, my name is Henry Samuels. Amelia told me that she mentioned to you that I am the town apothecary. It’s not a common term in your time but it’s almost like being a doctor. I know how to make ailments that help people when they are sick and I can perform surgeries and be a midwife for pregnant women. Although everyone in Millersport seems to like and respect me, some of the women feel more comfortable when Amelia is the midwife. I taught her so much. In fact, my daughter-in-law Beth is expecting her first born and Amelia will be caring for her. Anyway, many of the ailments I make I learned about from the nearby Indians and I have items for sale in my store that only they can make. But now that the war is going on, and the Indians appear to side with the British, it’s getting difficult for me to make what I need to heal people. I know you’ll read more about that in “Amelia’s Story,” and before you have the chance to judge me I’d like to say that I’m only human and even the nicest of men make mistakes once in a while. I made a big one and now Amelia has to wed a boy I personally don’t like, but I have to make sure everyone thinks that this marriage is my idea. I love her very much and although things seem hard right now on her, I believe she’ll have a happy marriage.
