Good afternoon world! So glad to be here to chat! We are sooooooooooo blessed with family & friends – the whole island has been coming out in support! After getting out Friday night, I selfishly took the weekend to spend with Pappy & try to recoup. So I’m back and here to let you know how we are. We are doing incredibly well for our situation and are so full of gratitude. People all over the country, of all faiths and walks, have been sending out prayers for use. Those with no faith have sent good thoughts. It works, believe me. Each step along this journey has been easier and better than expected. Before surgery, outlook was bleak, after on both of us, much better. Jennifer has been amazing—doing so much she had never done before, and tending to both of her parents – not always easy, but she came through like a trooper! My sister and niece drove in from New Orleans for a bit to spell Jen and help us and just love her sissy! Everyone has been so great offering equipment, support, everything! Pappy & I go back to dr Thursday and will get a better picture of our near future. We know Pappy will be out another 3 weeks, then more surgery, then 3-4 months off leg, reassess. I ended up leaving the hosp. Friday without a wound vac after spending all day working on insurance to be able to take a vac home and same with home health. Got vac approved, working on home health when they came & took wound vac off to put new one on. Looking at it, calling in superiors and consulting with dr, all decided it would be better to leave it off. Foot still swollen, they put on a hard splint. This is my right foot, which was badly mangled. Big toe with compound fractures, bones sticking out. Foot cut so bad the dr said he put his hand through my foot. Pins in toes & foot, then sewed up, right side compartmentalized, so holes cut to release pressure. No timeline on when I have to have surgery again. We’re hoping the skin, so badly damaged on top & bottom, will live so no need for grafting. Now we are both home and doing as well as anyone can be in the situation. Please continue to pray & send well wishes—we so appreciate it all and it does help. We love you all so much! And Pappy says … we will survive and thrive again! God Bless!
