Good article, esp for friends in the education fields.... Ive read of countless programs demonstrating half the battle is Raising Expectations, but also demanding students acquire the necessary tools... prisoners taking a class in Shakespeare, ect. Even top students from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as Justice Sotomayor talked of her demanding first year at Princeton, getting up to speed- Not so much a lack of Ability or Intelligence for many, just other factors, as discussed here.
