Good article that echoes some of my sentiments and experiences in academia. Ive often been accused of being too mainstream/not academic enough. The pejorative pop becomes a prefix on anything you do. Pseudo-academic at best, according to the most stalwart Ivory Tower residents. Never mind that I have a fairly enviable vita for someone at my experience level. Regardless, Ive come to view myself as a middleman. Incorporating academic content and concepts into more broadly accessible work. Which is fine. I dont ever want to be a full professor anyway. I want to be a practitioner. The Harris-Perry of theater/performance ;)
