Good day Family, I start this thought by saying “just like me”. When I say this, I am referring to the prodigal son. He is just like me or should I say I am like him. Coincidently, it was also the title of Sunday’s message. Pastor Danita explained that the term Prodigal means wasteful, reckless or without control. How many of us at one time or another displayed some if not all of these traits? I for one can say I have. To understand the story of the Prodigal son is to understand God’s mercy and God’s love. The Prodigal son was a sheep that broke from the herd and became lost while living a crazy life, spending everything he had on sinful things. In the beginning, it was fun for him. As Pastor stated, sin and sinful things can be fun but it is temporary and there will be consequences afterward. Indulging in pleasure will result in pain. Case in point, the Prodigal son ended up losing everything. He eventually realized that he needed to go back home but he was hesitant. He did not think that he would be welcomed. Little did he know his father was looking for him the entire time he was gone. No matter how much the son had messed up, the father would welcome him back into the fold as soon as he realized it was time to come around. Our father in heaven does the same for us. When we are lost, he looks for us, and if we return, he welcomes us back with open arms. The father waited on the son’s return as Jesus waits on ours. If you are out there doing me as they say and me is not cutting it anymore, what do you do then? Answer: come to Jesus. He is still waiting. The Prodigal son was a lost sheep whose return was waited on and welcomed by his father. I, like many others was a lost sheep and my return was waited on and welcomed by Jesus. Just like me. Bro Gil Amen
