Good day in Annapolis yesterday. I was asked to speak with the Leadership Allegany class about how County Government works in Annapolis. I delivered a flyer prepared by Commissioner McKay describing the history, and the agenda of the Rural Counties Coalition. I also assembled a panel composed of Michael Saunderson, Executive Director of MACo, Ivan Lanier, owner of Greenwell Consulting, and Jeanette Ortiz, also of Greenwell Consunting. Michael explained the mission of MACo. He does an unbelievable job of sitting at a table with representatives from every county in Md. and bringing us to agreement on most issues. Ivan and Jeanette explained the value of lobbyists in Annapolis ( not always bad, greedy guys) I then explained how I work with MACo as Allegany Countys representative, and how I work with Ivan and Jeanette to keep informed on issues that could affect our county. Ivan and Jeanette also set up meetings for me with Annapolis leaders who are not necessarily always accessible. I have a ton of respect for our citizens who are willing to spend months with Leadership Allegany learning about their county and state
