Good day to you. Lets discuss this topic: CONTRACTION. First of all, is it Dr. or Dr? Dr. is correct if you are following US convention(American English). But,if you are following British convention(British English), here is a useful guideline for you: If the last letter of a contraction is the same as the last letter of the whole word,then dont use a full stop(period). For example: Mister>Mr (the last letters are the same.) Professor>Prof. (the last letters are different). What Is Contraction? Contraction is a cut-down version of a word.There are two types: 1)Contractions with Apostrophes;for example,cant (contraction of cannot),isnt(contraction of is not) etc. 2)Contractions without Apostrophes;for example, Mr(contraction of Mister),Revd(contraction of Reverend)etc. Do you agree with me on this discussion?
