Good day today. I went to a retirement function for one of my mentors in leadership today. A man whom devoted a lifetime of service to his wife & family, his country, and is fellow soldiers/officers. This man, whom met me as a 22 year old police officer, taking my first leadership course, sat me down and steered me towards education, wisdom, temperament (yeah), and fairness, had a room full of people from across the state honoring him. Funny thing is, I apply things he and many others impressed upon me often. Not always, but often. It was in his programs I earned the name PUP, whereas I was usually younger than other attendees, and is what he honors me with even today. As I hugged him today, wishing him well, I wanted to tell him for THANK YOU for taking time for a rough and rowdy youth, and explaining what hard work and education will get you. Because this very morning, I went and picked up my Diploma from MSU. Having now an Associates, two Bachelors, and certificates from many prestigious programs because he, and many others took the time to tell me, work hard, pull yourself up by your bootstraps, lead by example, and never give up. Thank you Major Rich Hanzes, for all your years of serving our Great Nation, and the state of Kentucky. God Bless you.
