Good energy for Douglas, please. He may have been kicked by one - TopicsExpress

Good energy for Douglas, please. He may have been kicked by one of the other horses -- swollen hock, limping a bit. Hes putting weight on it, so I dont think its broken. The vet is coming out at 2:00 --Dr. Christina Murray, who is awesome. For those wondering... Douglas will be heading to a new boarding situation within the next 7 weeks. Over the years, Ive taken really good care of him -- Ive handled him for the farrier and vet, Ive treated him for colic and various injuries, and Ive worked diligently to keep his weight on. For the past year, his owners havent been involved with him, except to bring him food. Ive done nearly everything else for very, very little money. Im not judging them. I love them. The situation just is what it is. Hes not my horse and I desperately need a break from taking care of other peoples horses. Hes a good guy -- just not a good match for my herd. Its been very much like some one bringing their kid over to your house and saying, Here you go. YOU parent him now. They walk away and you have this kid, who by the way, doesnt get along with your own kids. What parent would put their children through that? Would you keep a child in the house 24/7 who bullied your children, who invaded their space and didnt respect their boundaries? These are the questions Ive had to ask myself, and the answer is NO, I wont be that person anymore. Tansy is my first horse and best teacher. I have an undying respect for this mare for reasons that I dont know if anyone else would ever understand. Ive watched her pinning her ears and having to defend her space from Douglas for the past year. Before that, at Jims place, she was asked to live with a constant rotation of new horses who she didnt like. 10 years of living with horses she didnt want to live with. Thats a long time. Shes almost 20. I may not have that many more years left with her, and Im not going to sacrifice that time to care for a horse that she doesnt like, who keeps her in a state of agitation if hes closer than 50 feet away. I guess Im explaining this because Ive gotten questions since I made my announcement to quit coaching and boarding. It may be hard for people, especially non-horse people, to understand, but when you have 5 horses, roughly 2 tons of reactive power that dont get along, it can be dangerous and anxiety causing -- and it tears the heart of enjoyment out of the experience of having a herd in the first place. So, Im making a change...
