Good evening, I took last night off to fold laundry for my wife. She was baking cookies for her sailors (yes, in this relationship, Im the Navy Wife ;-)). Figured it was the least that I could do. But it helped her out. Since December 7th Ally has had no seizures. I still only sleep about 4 hours a night but for the holidays I got me a gift. A few days off from work to sleep in and get ready for the holidays and more importantly, to code. I would like to show you the capabilities of the devices Im using to bring together what I hope will be an inexpensive seizure alert system. Currently Im prototyping with the RaspberryPi. The Pi is a full functional PC. The fun things can be harnessed to do things that I need them to do. The sensors on R2 can be used to check for movement, the autonomous nature can be used to warn someone. Now this would be way out in the future and kinda veers off of the idea of an affordable seizure alert device but it shows you what is possible. At the sam time the Pis, Intel Boards, Arduino boards are being used to do more than just make fun things. They are being used to help out in the real world. Last night I watched a program on CNN. It was about Weed in America. DISCLAIMER: This isnt a political debate forum, a debate on the Left, the Right, Democrats, Republicans, Big Pharma, Big Business... This is for information. A little girl named Charlotte was having 300 seizures a week. They got to the point that it affected her cognitive and academic development. The parents, a father who served in Afghanistan and a loving mother did research. They found that the oil from the plant that is bread to be very low in THC buy high in CDB has been known to help seizure patients. They transferred to Colorado and now his daughter is taking the special oil and the before and after was amazing. She still has seizures but only once a week. Ally is no where in that ball park. It reminds me that her situation could be much worse. And it reminds me to be thankful. If you ever want to know the fear that a we, parents of epileptics feel, I would suggest at least watching Weeds Part One on CNN. I cried through the whole thing. So much so my wife asked if I really should be watching it. The point is this, Answers to these types of conditions are out there. When one is found that may have promise its time to remove that item from its scheduled 1 rating on the Fed Drug list. This is what states pot has no medicinal value. I watched that little girl and she is night and day. Shes about 2 years behind cognitively but she is gaining ground. If that were my daughter I would be rocky mountain high in a heart beat just to see if it would work on Ally. But as the way the laws are structured right now she must stay in Colorado forever. Cant travel because the oil they bring, which cant get anyone high, is illegal. Again, no debate, just information. I know, a lot to digest. But I hope it gets you talking and watching. I hope it gets you into exploring the Maker Community and maybe you start building the next big quadcopter. Or R2-D2. Or in my case, can you build me a laundry folding robot?
