Good evening, Laurel had a more difficult day than yesterday. We expected that when she went onto CPAP that she would struggle with bradys and apneic spells again, and she is. Her spells are nothing compared with what she had before she went on the ventilator, but its incredibly hard to have her go through them. It can leave you with a sick feeling in your stomach. That being said, her nurses have said today that they feel like shes remained very stable. There are numerous reasons why she could be having the spells right now, and they may not all be related to her lung development. The seal on her CPAP mask can lead to issues, what she has in her tummy can decrease the volume of breath that she can take, and many other little things. Her nurse said that given the fact that she has needed very low levels of supplementary oxygen and that she doesnt seem to be working very hard when she breathes, we shouldnt be very concerned. She lost another 30 grams today, putting her weight down to 1610 grams (3.55lbs). Mondays are always hard for us-- its hard to be at work when she could be having a spell. Its hard to not be able to provide all of the care for her. We miss her terribly, and its an awful feeling to hear about a spell after the fact. Pray that Laurel will begin to put weight on again. She will likely continue to stabilize as she grows, so growth is a big deal for her. Please also pray for her to have continued lung growth and development. Pray that her breathing will become easier and easier and that we will be amazed by her progress over this next week. Please pray for safe travels and productive visits this week-- that we will be able to hold her for great amounts of time and that it will continue to help her to be stable. Thank you all for loving our little girl. Thank you for praying for her, and we look forward to the day that we can report that she is happily sleeping at home for the first time.
