Good evening PDS friends and fans. Are you ready for the deep freeze? We are! We have set out our mobile weather station to record data for the severe cold that will overtake a large portion of the country over the next 36 hours. Wind Chill warnings are in effect as far south as Central Illinois and Central Indiana. The remainder of the Mid Mississippi River Valley and Ohio River Valley is under a Wind Chill Advisory. Temps will struggle to get out of the single digits and will drop well below zero during Wednesday night and Thursday night. Winds will be screaming along at 20 to 30 mph and that will make wind chills in the Warning area -35 or lower over an extended period of time. In the advisory area, wind chill readings may go as low as -27. Of meteorological note.. we will be using our Davis Weather Station record the wind chills as well as the barometric pressure. This high pressure system is a deep and strong high with sinking air. As the pressure increases as the high passes overhead, it is expected that the barometer will reach record levels which here in St. Louis is 30.99 in. Please remember to dress in layers if you plan on being out for any length of time. Make sure pets come inside from the cold and do not try and make a warm area with heat lamps. Frostbite will occur within 15 minutes on any exposed skin with these wind chill values. Small snow chances in the offing later during the end of the weekend and I will update accordingly.
