Good evening, UK Evening and Weekend Forecast – 6th June - TopicsExpress

Good evening, UK Evening and Weekend Forecast – 6th June Synoptic situation: Low pressure is centred over the Atlantic a few hundred miles west/southwest of the UK. This low will push a potentially active trough and cold front across the country during the first half of the weekend, with pressure rising again on Sunday, although further troughs will affect the northwest. Friday night: It is a fine end to the day across much of the UK with a fair amount of sunshine around, although this sunshine is hazy for many areas. Thicker cloud bringing a few showers is edging into parts of Wales and southwest England. It is a rather warm end to the day despite the fresh east/south-easterly winds over southern and south-western regions. Tonight will see cloud continuing to thicken up from the south across England, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Wight and Wales with some scattered thundery showers breaking out, across the southwest later this evening and then more widely across central and southern England and Wales during the second half of the night. Not everywhere will see the showers, but where they do develop there could be some intense downpours and frequent lightning, most likely across central, southern and south-western parts of England, the Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands. Much of Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man will see a dry night with clear spells, although north-eastern parts of Scotland will turn dull and misty. Winds will remain east/south-easterly, moderate to fresh across central and southern England, lighter further north, but the winds will become quite gusty around any thundery showers. It will be a rather warm and muggy night, especially across south-eastern parts of England with temperatures falling to no lower than 16°C or 17°C here, elsewhere across England, the Channel Islands, Wales and Northern Ireland lows of between 14°C and 16°C are expected whilst over Scotland minimums of 11°C to 13°C are likely. Saturday: A warm and muggy start to the weekend for much of the country but it will turn fresher from the southwest as that cold front pushes north-eastwards on Saturday. It will be a cloudy start to the day across much of England, the Channel Island, the Isle of Wight, the Isle of Man, Wales and Northern Ireland with outbreaks of heavy thundery rain moving up from the south, although the far north and east of England may start off dry and bright. There could be some locally very intense downpours with gusty winds, hail and frequent lightning associated with some of the storms, but not everywhere will see them. Across southwest England the day will start fresher with some sunny spells, and these brighter and fresher conditions will spread to much of Wales, central and southern England, including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight, during the day, although a few heavy downpours may break out again later in the afternoon. Across Scotland it will be a dry start to the day, if rather dull and misty towards the northeast, and whilst much of northern Scotland will see a fine and dry day, it will turn cloudy and wet across central and southern Scotland during the afternoon as that heavy, thundery rain moves north out of England. Winds will be quite gusty east/south-easterlies around the heavier downpours, but they will veer south-westerly and ease as it brightens up across southern and south-western England and Wales. Temperatures will generally range from between 19°Cand 21°C, but could climb to as high as 23°C in any sunny spells towards southeast England. Sunday: It will be a much quieter day for much of the country with the last of the thundery rain clearing the Northern Isles early on in the day. Across much of England and Wales it will be a mostly dry day with sunny spells and just the odd heavy shower breaking out in the afternoon, most likely in the north and west. The greater risk of showers comes across Northern Ireland and Scotland where some could turn heavy and thundery in places, but much of northern and eastern Scotland may well miss out on these. Winds on Sunday will be light to moderate southerlies, fresh in the northwest, and it will feel fresher despite maximum temperatures reaching 20°C to 22°C across England and Wales, perhaps 23°C or 24°C across southeast England. It will be a touch cooler over Scotland and Northern Ireland with maximums here in the high teens at best. Have a great weekend and keep up with all the latest news on this page. Paul
