Good evening classmates! My name is Micah Hodges and I am a junior at JMU studying music with an emphasis in music industry. For those who don’t know, this month is Autism Awareness month. As you can probably be aware, autism is as a social disorder where people with it are different in the way they process information and communicate. As for me, I am a student with a form of high-functioning autism called Asperger’s Syndrome. I found out that I had it at the age of 15 and thought that it would hinder me for the rest of my life. However, I have stood against the stereotypes and I am pursuing and thriving in college. Since I have been in college, the views of autism were always negative, and since I am a Christian, God has really shown me that autism is not a curse, it is a beautiful gift and I am made the way I am for a reason. The way He defined it is: Amazing Understanding Triumphant Inspirational Sympathetic Mighty To this day, I keep that in the back of my mind everyday and I realize that I will be different and that is incredible :) If you have any questions for me about autism or Asperger’s Syndrome, please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or simply message me.
