Good evening everybody. Ive got great news......today marks a year since our precious miracle has been discharged from the Nicu!!!!! I cant believe its been a year already. Well this year has definitely been trying in every way possible. It has also been very teachable. Its been full of scares, tears, lessons, and tons and tons of smiles. A year ago today Melanie came home on oxygen and an apnea monitor. She weighed 5.8 pounds and was 22 inches long. She was still very fragile and very small. She was perfect. Not only have we managed to avoid the expected hospital visits many preemies have within their first couple of years, Melanie is oxygen free and weighs a whopping 18.8 pounds. She is such a happy baby and is always smiling and laughing. Some things Melanie enjoys is climbing, holding onto someones hand as she tries to walk around, Minnie Mouse, stuffed animals, her blankets, play time with her cousin Mia, opening the lid to her snacks and being outside. In her last post I talked about synagis. Although her pulmonologist would prefer her get the shots, he feels he is going to have a hard time getting them approved so we will be skipping that this year. Also, Mel is still too tiny to transition to whole milk so we will be on formula for another three months or until Mel gains enough weight to tolerate dairy. Monday is Melanies high risk follow up appointment at Huntington memorial. This time around we are super excited for this appointment and for them to see all of Mels growth :) if its not too late after the appointment we will be visiting the day nurses, another thing we are super excited for. This isnt everything but its all I can think of at the moment. Again I cant thank you all enough for following Melanie journey. I say this often but if we can help out one person who knows someone going through this journey or going through themselves we did our job :) our goal is to raise awareness as much as possible and it starts here. Please enjoy this slideshow that dad put together to honor Mels first year home
