Click on this link for more information and please refresh for updates: bom.gov.au/qld/warnings/index.shtml?ref=hdr _______________________________________________________ Weather Situation A high pressure system near New Zealand will extend a ridge into the Coral Sea during the forecast period, whilst a broad area of low pressure will persist through the Queensland interior. A humid and unstable airmass will combine with a series of upper troughs moving east over the state to generate an active phase of showers and storms through many parts until at least mid to late next week. Forecast for the rest of Friday Showers and storms over much of the interior and through the central and southern inland. Some showers near the southern coast with the slight to medium chance of storms this evening. The slight chance of showers over the tropics, more likely near the west Peninsula coast with the chance of some storms. Fine and partly cloudy near the southwestern border. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, tending southerly in the southwest. Saturday 6 December Rain areas, showers and storms over southern central parts and the southeastern corner of the state. Some locally heavy falls are likely with thunderstorms. Showers and gusty storms (mostly inland) through the tropics, the northwest and into remaining central districts and the southern interior east of about Charleville. Some severe storms are likely. Partly cloudy in the southwest though with just the some early storms followed by patchy light rain. Light to moderate northwest to northeasterly winds, tending southwesterly in the southwest of the state. Fire Danger - Very High through parts of western Queensland, reaching Severe in the Central West. Sunday 7 December The first upper trough will move over eastern Queensland while a new upper trough will enter the southwest late in the day. A humid and unstable airmass will persist through much of the state, with a medium to high chance of showers and storms through the southeast into the tropical inland and northwest of the state, and a slight to medium chance near the tropical coast and through the central and southern interior east of about Longreach to Charleville. Some patchy cloud will persist through areas near and southwest of Longreach to Charleville though with just the slight chance of light rain. Monday 8 December The new upper trough will shift east over the interior. Humidity will increase through the southwest of the state leading to the slight to medium chance of showers and storms. A moist and unstable airmass will extend through remaining parts of the state with a medium to high chance of showers and storms, particularly over inland parts. Tuesday 9 December The upper trough should move into eastern Queensland, combining with the moist and unstable airmass to generate showers and storms through northern, central and southeastern districts. A slight to medium chance of showers and storms is expected through the west of the state to the west of the upper trough and in a slightly drier airmass. _______________________________________________________ Forecast for the North Tropical Coast and Tablelands - Partly cloudy.
