Good evening folks! We are looking forward to the Foothills - TopicsExpress

Good evening folks! We are looking forward to the Foothills Farmers Market- Uptown Shelby in the morning. =) After the slow and steady rain this week everything around the homestead sanctuary has come back to life! Good timing as Alex is also keeping his eye out for our fungi friends in preparation for next Sundays plant (and hopefully mushroom!) walk. See our website for details about the walk and be sure to spread the word. We need more folks actively remembering this ancient knowledge that has sustained us for so long on this good earth! livingearthsanctuary.wordpress/education-events/2014-workshop-schedule/piedmont-plants-mushrooms/ We also wanted to take this opportunity to share with you all the attached video in CELEBRATION of the pollinators! Yay! =) You will notice the unbelievable amount of insects having a good time on this patch of native mountain mint. It surely is hypnotizing to watch them all doing their dance. And through this dance from one plant to the next, they are literally making it possible for us to grow the food we will be sharing with you all in the morning! Those of you who are not already familiar with the native mountain mint may want to consider introducing it to the edges of your gardens and orchards. The pollinators are attracted to its incredibly aromatic smell which is good news for any garden. On top of this, we are experimenting with mountain mint as a natural deer repellent. So many uses, and we havent even touched on the medicinal qualities of mint family plants (well save that for a later post!). And so we would like to extend many, many thanks to the pollinators (and the rain and the sun and the stars and the moon...) who all make it possible for us to share with you all a nourishing spread at market in the morning! In the midst of this summer heat we are really thrilled to be able to continually offer you all greens in the form of our farm foraged sautee mix! This week the base includes malabar spinach, lambs quarters, and amaranth greens. The special additions include day lily buds, cherry tomatoes, and purple amaranth greens for a beautiful splash of color. Well also have with us the very last of our garlic harvest, cherry tomatoes, larger heirloom tomatoes, okra, some fun squash varieties, egyptian walking onion sets, luffa sponges, our full line of herbal formulas, and some very useful potted plants. =) Enjoy the cool evening, folks! Well see you bright and early.
