Good evening peeps. All the birds seem well today. The little swallow is developing fast and becoming very lively. It perches on the side of the knitted nest with legs and feet that have grown strong. I decided eventually to name it Summer. This is because I refuse to accept that summer is over until the very last tiny swallow has left these shores. The weather is glorious, sunny, blue skies and warm, so Im not giving in to autumn yet, despite the dark evenings and hedges heavy with ripe berries. Raspberrys plumage is changing quickly now and he looks so grown up. Hes independent and always foraging around, I see the results on his mucky beak! But he still likes to visit for a treat of sultanas and mealworms and I love to see him. He calls me with that sweet blackbird sound. How I wish that Haul still danced around the garden too. The aviary birds are fine, although Bully looks a little lost without Gracie. I let his two youngsters out today and I hoped that they would go off with their mum Gracie when she came for food. But they took no notice of her and begged to return to the aviary this evening. Gracie had turned feral already and wont come near me, flying off when I go into the garden. Hard to believe that she wasnt at all bothered about me being close in the aviary. Twiggy wood pigeon is OK but very scared of me, a worry when I have to get it out of the cage every time to hand feed. But good news is that its bending its bad leg a little at the ankle, although not moving its toes yet. Skater rook and Beau crow are well and squabble a lot! The other pigeons quietly live their lives eating, preening, bathing and sleeping. In dont think that Cher and Ami are ever going to leave. Baby cockateil is fine although he must wonder whats going on. Its all so strange for him being taken from his home and not seeing his owners. I give him lots of treats and chat to him when I can. Heres Summer enjoying a little sunshine this afternoon.
