He wanted to mix gospel and secular sound and recruited four gospel vocalists and a guitarist.The original Drifter with Clyde McPhatter have been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and Ben E. King and The Drifters were also inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. They also are featured in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Rank #81 on Rolling Stones 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.
