Good evening to all. Weather check: Lows of 14 and high of 19 degrees. Egg count 3/3 Solar check. 1.9kwh generated to the batteries. Over the past couple of days, we have been gathering wood for winter. Mr Fonte Do Pato attacked the old log pile that was made in July. Mainly full of small branches. This was quickly turned into kindling though. I attacked some larger branches and soon we had a small pile. Today we gathered larger trees that were cut down in May from the woods. These have dried out and will be logged and split later. The Oven chimney arrived yesterday, only 2 months late. So, soon we will be attacking the wall to create a hole for the chimney and getting it plumbed in. Then we can have some heat finally. This afternoon we attacked some the the pines around the house. This has a twofold outcome. One, the solar panels will not have any shadows during the morning and evening in winter when the sun is at its lowest. Two, we need to create a fire break around the house. I believe the recommended distance is 2 metres, but we are going for 10. The wood we have to cut down will dried and either used for fire wood or future projects. I have an idea what to use them for already! There i going to be a space above our house when the pines are taken down. We were looking to replace some of these with fast growing trees that are not a dry as pines. This will help as a fire break too as they do not burn very well when wet. We would like hazel and willow, but until we get a bore hole, watering them in summer may strain the supplies a little to far. MRS FDP insisted that she had to have some photos of me on here.
