Good for those sensitive souls at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. For demonstrating their enlightenment - and certainly their commitment to tolerance and diversity - in pushing the Schools Dean to rescind the invitation to Colorado State Sen. Mike Johnston to deliver this years commence speech. What of interest could they possibly hear from him? Certainly not about his role as an early-generation member of TFA. Or about the book he wrote chronicling his time as a young educator in rural Mississippi. Or of the breakthrough school (Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts) in the low-income suburbs of Denver that he founded and led. Certainly not of his service in the Colorado Senate or his leadership on issues ranging from teacher evaluation (SB 191) to school finance (okay, maybe he doesnt want to talk about that one right now). Or as someone with the Presidents ear on issues of education reform. You go, Harvard ed students. Make sure you only invite someone who confirms all the biases you developed in academia and certainly does nothing to challenge your oh-so-refined worldview. What could you possibly learn from Johnstons experiences in the educational trenches or as a policy-maker? Stay strong, Harvard! #PreachingToleranceJustNotPracticingIt washingtonpost/politics/harvard-education-school-students-protest-commencement-speaker/2014/05/17/29426400-ddfe-11e3-8009-71de85b9c527_story.html?wpisrc=emailtoafriend
